Okay here is a real-life scenario that just happened to my good friend, Jill, last Saturday night.
Following work on Saturday, Jill stopped at Winn Dixie to get lunch for work the next day. It was about 8PM or so. Then she got back in the car and was heading home when she saw the flashing blue lights behind her. Jill is notorious for getting speeding tickets, and she knew she was speeding, so she figured, here's another one!
She pulled over to the side of the road on this completely dark section of highway. It was an unmarked cop car that pulled her over. Seeing this, she only cracked her window just enough to be able to hear the man speak. The man that came to her window was a well dressed clean cut white male in plain clothes who never showed her a badge, but simply told her that she was going about 15 miles above the speed limit. She said she was aware of that, and he proceeded to ask her for her driver's license and told her to step out of her car. Well, Jill refused. He asked her again, and when she refused again, he attempted to open her car door. When he couldn't get her door open, he stuck his fingers through the crack in her window! Jill promptly rolled up her window with the man's fingers still attached and began to drive off, dragging the man as she went. I guess a thousand things went through her head in this little time, but eventually, right before she got back on the highway, she cracked the window back down, the man fell to the ground, and she took off. Being the Jill I know, she decided he wasn't going to get away with this, so she turned around to get his tag number. Before she could get back there, he was speeding away. Needless to say, Jill and her family were/are pretty shaken up by this, especially since the police didn't pay much attention to them when they filed a report.
Besides being SO thankful that she is safe, I am so glad that she knew what to do, and I wondered how many of my other friends would know what to do as well? Did you know that you actually don't have to pull over for an unmarked car in the dark? You can just put your flashers on and slow down, but you can also call 911 to verify that it is a cop behind you before you ever pull over. And just for you lucky ones that have never gotten a ticket and wouldn't know.... a real cop would NEVER ask you to get out of the vehicle like that. We also assume that this guy saw Jill by herself at the Winn Dixie and figured she was a good target. So there's another warning to be aware of your surroundings, especially at night.
Pass this along and tell someone about this... hopefully her scary experience will help somebody else if this happens to them!
